Okay, I’ll admit it. Although I keep “Atlanta Copywriter” in the title of my site, very few of my clients are what you would call “local.”
That’s because I meet most clients through online referrals, social media, and this Website. The majority of them aren’t necessarily looking to hire a local copywriter. They just want someone who is professional and can deliver stellar work. Communicating online makes it possible to work with freelancers from just about anywhere.
But that doesn’t mean there aren’t benefits to hiring local talent. For those of you flirting with the idea of hiring locally, here are a few reasons you may consider doing so:
1. The Really Big Projects
Companies sometimes need a freelancer who can work closely with their in-house team. This might happen in situations when the client has a project so big that bringing in a temporary team member becomes a necessity.
And when I say “bringing in,” I mean literally showing up in the office – physically.
Not only will the client benefit from having a freelance copywriter who knows exactly what’s happening, for instance, on the design side of a project, but the whole process of working with a freelancer will likely be more efficient.
There won’t be as much “back-and-forth” between freelancer and client as each works to make the project a success. Since you’re working with your writer in a very direct way, many potential questions or hang-ups will solve themselves instantly.
2. Sustainability
If you work with a copywriter you have met face-to-face, that relationship stands a good chance of becoming one that lasts.
Think about your favorite coffee shop, grocer, or neighborhood bar. You not only appreceate the services they provide, but you will always patronize them because of the relationships you form with the people there. Working with a local copywriter is no different, and face-to-face contact commonly leads to sustainable business relationships.
And when you work with one copywriter for a long time, both of you will become accustomed to each others’ styles – an arrangement that should lead to consistently excellent results.
It’s like the bartender who always knows what you’re drinking.
3. An Eye for Local Flavor
For many businesses, it also helps to have a copywriter who knows your territory. When that’s the case, you might benefit from working with a writer who can incorporate cues that locals understand – and that help you sell more.
Here in Atlanta, the popular discount service Scoutmob often incorporates local lore, jokes, and turns of phrase in its almost daily marketing emails to subscribers. Depending on your medium – and trust me, it really depends on your medium – this strategy can move many readers to action.
It does for me, at least. I use Scoutmob discounts all the time.
Whether you’re hiring an Atlanta Copywriter, a Chicago Web designer, or a Bogotá wedding planner, working with a local professional may carry more benefits than meet the eye.
